We have to learn a lesson from Castro: D.E.W. Gunasekera
The following views were expressed by the leader of the Communist Party in Sri Lanka, at the Fidel Castro memorial held on Sunday evening.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka D. E. W. Gunasekera said:
There were black people, white people, yellow people and even brown people in Cuba along with natives and migrants, who were from various religions. All of these people were brought together.
If they were not brought together they would have never been able to defend their country from the super power, USA, which was just 90 miles away”.
He added, “They would poke their finger into their affairs. That is what has happened to us”.
He went on to note that SL has gained independence but has not been able to create national unity, which is why the colonialists ‘poke their finger.’
“We have to learn a lesson from Castro”, he said.
